…Stravinsky used a chamber orchestra of seven musicians and made use of dance rhythms such as ragtime, jazz, tango, and waltz to create a completely new piece of music. It consists of two parts and six scenes, and eleven pieces of music, including "Soldier's March" and "Music by the Stream," are used repeatedly as the play progresses. Although the music is often performed on its own as a concert suite, this work had a major influence on musical theater in the 1920s. …
