…He gained popularity for his simple style of poetry, rich in everyday poetic sentiment, modeled on the poetry of the Southern Song Dynasty, and worked to introduce and enlighten the world of Southern Song poetry himself. Later, he opened a poetry society called Gyokuchi Ginsha on the banks of Otamaike Pond in Kanda, where he nurtured many successors, and was a leading figure in the Chinese poetry world of Edo in the first half of the 19th century. His works include the poetry collection Shisei-do Shishu (first volume 1809, second volume 1828, third volume 1838) and the poetic treatise Shisei-do Shiwa (1799). …

…In 1817 (Bunka 14), he returned to his hometown, wrote poetry, and took on disciples. In 1820 (Bunsei 3), he married the female Chinese poet Koran, and traveled far and wide. In 1832 (Tenpo 3), he opened the Gyokuchi Ginsha (Gyo-chi Poetry Society) in Otamagaike, Kanda, Edo, and took a leading position in the Edo poetry world, becoming acquainted with Toko Fujita, Shozan Sakuma, and others. In 1846 (Koka 3), he moved to Kyoto, where he enjoyed a leisurely life while discussing current affairs with Unpin Umeda, Mikisaburo Yori, and others. …
