Japanese: ヒキヨモギ（英語表記）Siphonostegia chinensis Benth.

A semi-parasitic annual plant of the Scrophulariaceae family that grows in grasslands in low mountain areas (illustration). The stems, which grow upright from weak roots, are 30-70 cm tall. The leaves are opposite on the lower part and alternate on the upper part, ovate, deeply lobed into broad linear lobes, 1.5-5 cm long and 1-3 cm wide, and covered with short hairs. In August and September, flowers appear next to the upper leaves, bright yellow with a conspicuous lip-shaped corolla that is reddish brown below the upper lip. The flowers are tubular, enclosed in a calyx with 10 longitudinal stripes, 2.8 cm long, and have a flat, tubular upper lip with a pointed tip.
