Dates of birth and death unknown. A nobleman and military commander during the Northern and Southern Courts period. Second son of Chikafusa. In 1336 (Engen 1, Kenmu 3), he raised an army in Ise and assisted Emperor Godaigo in his relocation to Yoshino. In 1338 (Engen 3, Ryakuo 1), he became Mutsu no Suke and Chinjufu Shogun and set sail from Ise with Chikafu and others, but was shipwrecked on the way. After returning to Yoshino, he headed east again the following year, passing through Hitachi and entering Mutsu, where he attempted to recapture Taga Kokufu (Tagajo City, Miyagi Prefecture), but was defeated and retreated to northern Mutsu. In 51 (Shohei 6, Kanno 2), he took advantage of the Kanno Disturbance to successfully recapture the provincial capital, but was defeated the following year and moved to Utsumine Castle (Sukagawa City, Fukushima Prefecture), which then fell and he fled again to northern Mutsu. He continued to issue proclaimed orders until around 62 (Shohei 17, Joji 1), but his later years are unknown. His second son, Morichika, succeeded him as Mutsu kokushi, and his descendants based themselves in Namioka, Tsugaru (Namioka, Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture) and called the Namioka Palace, maintaining their influence until the Sengoku period.
