A Japanese theater company. Its representative is Isao Hashizume. It was founded in 1975 by Hiroshi Akutagawa, Kyoko Kishida, Noboru Nakatani and others, as an independent company from the theater company "Kumo" attached to the Contemporary Theater Association. They perform a wide range of stage productions, from works by foreign authors such as Racine, Shakespeare and Chekhov, to works by Japanese playwrights such as Minoru Betsuyaku and Shogo Ota, and even children's theater. 日本の劇団。代表は橋爪功。1975年、芥川比呂志を中心に、岸田今日子、仲谷昇らが参加して、現代演劇協会付属の劇団「雲」から独立する形で結成。ラシーヌ、シェークスピア、チェーホフなど海外作家の作品から、別役実、太田省吾など日本の劇作家の作品、児童演劇まで、幅広い舞台作品を手がける。演技者、舞台監督など演劇関係の人材を育成する演劇研究所も有する。
