A monk from Silla (Korea). His posthumous name was Enkyo Kokushi. He is honored as the "Founder of Haedong Kegon." His secular surname was Kim. He became a monk at the age of 20, and in 650 he aimed to go to China with Wonhyo, but failed to do so. In 661 he went to China and studied Kegon doctrine under Chigan (602-668), returning to Korea in 671 after Chigan's death. In 676 he entered Taebaeksan, and at the order of the imperial court he built Busekisa Temple, from which he actively spread the Kegon philosophy, laying the foundation for the development of Korean Buddhism. His books include the first volume of "Ichijo Hokkaizu," and his disciples include Goshin, Chitsu, and Hyokun.
