Post-modernism

Japanese: Post-modernism(英語表記)Postmodernism
Post-modernism

...After World War II, reflecting the unprecedented economic boom, many experimental modern architectures were born, including works by W. Gropius, Saarinen the Younger, L. Mies van der Rohe, LI Kahn, and R. Neutra, who emigrated from Europe, as well as PC Johnson, Minoru Yamasaki, and Ieoh Ming Pei (1917- ). Since the 1970s, the concept of architecture has diversified due to the complexity of social structures, and a trend of "Post-modernism" has emerged, incorporating various historical styles, as represented by Michael Graves (1934- ).
[Crafts, Design]
American crafts have expanded in a variety of ways since the early colonial period, focusing on everyday furniture, and textiles, glass, silverwork, and other items with their own distinctive characteristics were produced by immigrant groups.

From [Modern Architecture]

…As if in response to this, Michael Graves (1934-), who used motifs reminiscent of historical styles in his designs, and Aldo Rossi (1931-), whose designs were unadorned and could be called neoclassical, appeared, and the International Style that was established in the 1920s began to undergo a new diversification. This trend, which became evident from the 1970s, is called "Post-modernism," from the standpoint that "modern architecture" has already reached historical completion. [Hiroyuki Suzuki]
【Japan】

[Meiji period architecture]
When Japan underwent the Meiji Restoration in 1868, the West was already rejecting "historical styles" and showing various early signs of what would eventually lead to modern architecture.

From [Design]

...In other words, design now has both an aspect that is involved in endless deconstruction and an aspect that relates multiple elements. The design phenomena that are today called "postmodernism" must be recognized and analyzed from this perspective. When this is done, it will become clear that design as a culture has a completely different character from modern design, but which was first revealed, albeit imprecisely, by modern design, that is, its characteristic of being difficult to overcome its contradictions and its character of never perishing in itself.
