Kira Chikazane

Japanese: 吉良親実 - きら ちかざね
Kira Chikazane
1563-1588 A military commander during the Oda-Toyotomi period.
Born in 1666. Son of Kira Chikasada. Succeeded his father as lord of Kira Mine Castle in Hirooka, Agawa County, Tosa (Kochi Prefecture), and later became lord of Hasuike Castle in Takaoka County. He clashed with his uncle, Chosokabe Motochika, over the succession to the Chosokabe clan, and was forced to commit suicide in 1582. He was 26 years old. Later, Motochika built Kizuka Myojin Shrine to enshrine the spirit of Chikazane. He was commonly known as Shinjuro.

永禄(えいろく)6年生まれ。吉良親貞(ちかさだ)の子。父の跡をつぎ土佐(高知県)吾川郡(あがわぐん)弘岡の吉良峰(きらがみね)城主となり,高岡郡蓮池城主に転じる。主家長宗我部(ちょうそかべ)家の跡継ぎをめぐって伯父の長宗我部元親(もとちか)と対立し,天正(てんしょう)16年自刃においこまれた。26歳。のち元親によって親実の霊をまつる木塚明神が建立された。通称は新十郎。
