...The first day of the festival is called "Yukunegami-asobi" (Evening God Play), and in the evening, the Nanchu girls, dressed in white robes and barefoot, are led by the senior priestesses and rush into the festival grounds shouting "E-fai, E-fai," cross the "Seven Bridges," and enter the "Nanatuya" (Seven Houses) where they are confined for three days. The second day is called "Asagami-asobi" (Morning God Play) or "Kashirare-asobi" (Dangling Hair Play), and the Nanchu girls with their washed hair come out of the shelters to the festival grounds and form a circle with the senior priestesses, singing sacred songs while dancing. On the third day, they perform "Shurikii" (Red God Play) or "Flower Vase Play."...
