Isolation balance - Kakuritenbin

A balance designed to be placed inside a lead cell or similar and operated through a lead wall by a motor-driven system in order to avoid radiation exposure when weighing samples containing radioactive materials. The scale can be read using optical equipment such as a periscope, or the displacement of the balance's internal mechanism can be converted into an electrical quantity (voltage, frequency, etc.) and displayed digitally outside the cell.

放射性物質を含む試料をひょう量する際，放射線被ばくを避けるために，てんびん(多くの場合，直示てんびん)を鉛セルなどのなかに設置し，モーター駆動方式により鉛の壁を隔てて操作できるようにつくられたてんびん．目盛の読みとりには，ペリスコープなど光学機器を使うか，てんびん内部機構の変位を電気的な量(電圧，周波数など)に変換して，セルの外側でデジタル表示する．
