The temperature at which a liquid changes into a solid when gradually cooled under a constant pressure (usually atmospheric pressure). It is equal to the temperature at which a liquid and a solid coexist in equilibrium under a constant pressure, and in this sense the freezing point and melting point are the same. The freezing point (melting point) varies slightly depending on pressure. In addition, the freezing point decreases when impurities, solutes, or other substances are dissolved in the liquid.
