This hot spring is located in Yubara Town, Maniwa County, in northern Okayama Prefecture. It is an old-fashioned hot spring resort remaining on the left bank of the upper reaches of the Asahi River, which runs through central Okayama Prefecture from north to south, and is accessible by bus, about 12km north from Chugoku Katsuyama Station on the Kishin Line. The spring water is simple, with a temperature of 37°C, and is heated in winter. The name "Taru" (barrel) is said to come from a historical event during the Warring States period, when the hot spring water from this place was bottled in barrels and sent to wounded soldiers to heal their wounds. It is included in the Yubara Onsen area, one of the "Mimasaka Three Hot Springs." [Tanizawa Akira] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
