...Ming typeface is said to have been used in the Ming Dynasty of China since the 16th century, and in 1815, when missionary R. Morrison printed a Chinese-English dictionary in Xiamen, China, Ming typeface was used. Then, around 1861-65, American W. Gamble adopted this typeface for the numbering typefaces he produced in Shanghai, and this was passed on to Shozo Motoki and others, becoming the main typeface in Japan. Ming typeface has thick vertical lines and thin horizontal lines, with triangular scales at the end of the horizontal lines, and has both geometric and collective beauty. ...
