Retrograde Canon - Gyakkou Canon (English spelling)

A musical term. A type of canon. Also called a crab canon. A canon in which the succeeding voice imitates the melody of the preceding voice backwards, that is, from the last note of the piece to the beginning. An example is found in Bach's Musical Offering. 音楽用語。カノンの一種。蟹形カノンとも呼ばれる。後続声部が先行声部の旋律を，逆から，すなわち曲の最後の音符から曲首に向って，模倣していくカノンをいう。バッハの『音楽の捧げもの』にその例がある。
