This theory posits that the founders of the unified Japanese state were a Northeast Asian horse-riding people who migrated from the Asian continent. Published by archaeologist Egami Hajime in 1948, this theory states that in the early 4th century, a group of horse-riding peoples led by the Emperor family invaded Kyushu via the Korean Peninsula, and established a powerful royal authority in the Kinai region at the end of the 4th century or the beginning of the 5th century. The theory cites the fact that the Early Kofun Culture and the Late Kofun Culture are fundamentally different cultures, that the Late Kofun Culture had a strong horse-riding people character, and documents such as the Eastern Barbarians section of the Old Book of Tang as evidence, but there are many opposing theories.
