Western Isles

In 1974, the Outer Hebrides became independent as the Western Isles, and the northern part of the Inner Hebrides was incorporated into the Highlands, and the central and southern parts into Strathclyde. The main city is Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, which serves as a fishing base.
