…Cues for finding schools of fish, such as bird-attached fish, remain important even today, when fish finders have been developed. Fishermen refer to schools of fish as namura, or the corrupted nagura, but in addition to bird-attached fish, they distinguish between namura attached to driftwood, namura attached to sharks (in Kumano, shark-attached bonito schools are called ebisu), and namura attached to whales, such as kujiratsuki. Schools of fish with no particular attachments are sometimes called sunamura (plain schools). …
