Gaseous fuel - gaseous fuel

Fuel used in a gaseous state. Contrasted with solid and liquid fuels. It has many features, such as the ability to be transported continuously through pipes, good ignition properties, and no ash emissions after combustion. Examples of gaseous fuels include hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methane, ethane, and propane. Coal gas obtained by carbonizing coal has long been used as city gas for lighting, cooking, and heating. Currently, gas produced as a by-product during coal and oil mining and oil refining, and natural gas mainly composed of methane, are widely used for household, industrial, and power generation purposes.

気体状態で使用される燃料。固体燃料、液体燃料に対比される。パイプによる連続輸送が可能で、着火性がよく、燃焼ののち灰分を出さないなど、数々の特長を有する。気体燃料として水素、一酸化炭素やメタン、エタン、プロパンなどがあげられる。石炭を乾留して得られる石炭ガスは、都市ガスとして古くから照明や炊事、暖房用として用いられてきた。現在は石炭・石油の採掘、石油精製の際併産されるガス、メタンを主成分とする天然ガスが家庭用、工業用、電力用として広く使用されている。
