The first course (gustum or promulsis) consisted of hors d'oeuvres such as eggs, salads, salted fish, sausages, and dormice, and was accompanied by wine with honey (mulsum). The second course (cena prima) usually consisted of roasted or boiled fish, poultry, or meat (pork, rabbit, boar, deer, wild goat, lamb, etc.), and was accompanied by wine diluted with water. The last course (cena secunda) consisted of fruit and sweets such as apples and pomegranates.
