A gene that has a base sequence similar to that of a normal gene, but is not transcribed into mRNA and does not express any information. It is also called a junk gene. It is thought to arise when mutations accumulate in duplicated genes, or when mRNA is converted to DNA by reverse transcriptase and incorporated into chromosomal DNA. In humans, the well-known example is the globin pseudogene group. (Yuji Tarumi, science journalist / 2007) Source : "Chiezo" published by Asahi Shimbun Publications Co., Ltd. About Chiezo |
