Cold desert

...the area corresponds to the extremely arid region and arid region (narrow sense) in the currently most widely cited map of arid regions by P. Meigs. There are also arid regions in high latitudes such as Antarctica and high mountain regions, which are called cold deserts, but these regions are often not included in the "desert" category because the characteristics of cold regions are more pronounced than those of arid regions.

Deserts are classified according to their origin into four types: subtropical deserts, coastal cool deserts, rain shadow deserts, and continental interior deserts.
