This sandy beach is located in the northwest of the Izumo Plain in northeastern Shimane Prefecture. Its ancient name was Sono-no-Nagahama. It is known for the myth of the transfer of the country, and nearby are Kuniyori-iwa and Benten-iwa. It is said that in Kannazuki (the tenth month of the lunar calendar), gods from all over Japan who gather at Izumo Taisha Shrine land on this beach. The sand dunes have been turned into cultivated land by planting trees to protect against sand and wind, and were used as mulberry fields, but in recent years have been converted into vineyards. As a specialty of seedless "Shimane grapes," they are shipped to areas such as Kinki and Kitakyushu outside of the shipping season for Koshu grapes. To the east of the beach is Izumo Taisha Shrine, and to the northwest is Hinomisaki Lighthouse and Hinomisaki Shrine.
