Japanese: カンラン科 - カンランか（英語表記）Burseraceae

A family of dicotyledonous plants in the order Rutaceae. There are about 500 species in 16 genera, mainly in the tropics and subtropics of both the Old and New Worlds. They are tall or shrubs with alternate leaves, most of which are pinnately compound. Many contain balsam and other resins. The flowers are small and densely packed together in a panicle or raceme (→ raceme). Each flower has 3-5 petals and a disk at the base similar to that of the Rutaceae family. There are also 3-5 stamens, sometimes 2 flowers with 6-12 stamens. The superior ovary is divided into 2-5 lobes, each containing 2 ovules. There are no native species in Japan, but olive trees native to mainland China are planted in southwestern Japan and the Ryukyu Islands.

双子葉植物ミカン目の1科。新旧両大陸の熱帯，亜熱帯を中心に 16属 500種ほどがある。高木または低木で，葉は互生し，多くは羽状複葉である。バルサムなどの樹脂を含むものが多い。花は小さく，密に集って円錐または総状の花序 (→総状花序 ) をつくる。個々の花は3～5弁で底部にミカン科と同様の花盤がある。おしべも3～5本，ときに2輪で6～12本ある。子房は上位，2～5室に分れ各室に2個の胚珠がある。日本に自生種はないが，中国大陸原産のカンラン (橄欖)が西南日本や琉球列島で植えられている。
