Japanese: 加世田[市] - かせだ

An old city in the southwest of the Satsuma Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. Its center is the former Kaseda-cho district, and it has developed as the center of southern Satsuma since early modern times. Agriculture is small-scale, but the area produces a lot of pumpkins and scallions, and tea and mandarin orange cultivation is thriving. Fishing is also carried out mainly in Kominato, and anchovies and dried small sardines are local specialties. Shochu production and beef cattle breeding are also active. In November 2005, it was incorporated as a city by merging with Kasasa-cho, Oura-cho, and Bozu-cho in Kawabe-gun, and Kinpo-cho in Hioki-gun. ^{94.37 km2} . Population 23,805 (2003).
