Thermometer - thermometer

Generally, this refers to a thermometer that measures the coldness or warmth of room temperature, outside temperature, etc. Therefore, the temperature measurement range can be thought of as between -40°C and +40°C. Thermometers generally used for this purpose are mercury thermometers (which cannot be used below the melting point of mercury, which is -38.87°C) or liquid thermometers (thermometers in which kerosene dyed red is sealed inside). Other types include those that use a bimetallic material to indicate temperature with a pointer, as well as liquid crystal thermometers and thermocolor thermometers used as interior decor. Of these, bimetallic thermometers are the only ones that can reliably function down to temperatures as low as -40°C.

一般に室温、外気温などの寒さ・暖かさを測る温度計をいう。したがって温度測定の範囲は、マイナス40℃からプラス40℃の間と考えてよい。このような目的に使われるのは、一般に水銀温度計（水銀の融点がマイナス38.87℃であるため、これ以下では使えない）や、液体温度計（灯油を赤く染めて封入した温度計）である。このほかにバイメタルの伸び・縮みを利用して指針で温度を示すもの、また室内インテリアとして液晶温度計、サーモカラー温度計などがある。これらのうちで、マイナス40℃の低温まで確実に働くのはバイメタル温度計である。
