Light and dark stripes are created by the interference of light. When white light is used, the position of light and dark varies depending on the wavelength, so colored stripes appear. Experiments to see interference fringes include Young's experiment (strong light is sent through two parallel slits and received on a screen), Fresnel's biprism (a glass prism with an isosceles triangular cross section with a apex angle close to 180°), Fresnel's double mirror (two plane mirrors joined to form an angle close to 180°), and Newton's rings. There are also moire image interference fringes, which are similar to the moire pattern that occurs when a halftone print is placed on a grid screen to create a halftone print. The two lights that create interference fringes are said to be coherent, and coherent light that maintains a phase-aligned waveform for a long time is called a laser. →Related topics Diffraction fringes | Interference colors Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
