〘noun〙① A hollow; a hole. ※Sankyo Shigui (around 797): "Ascend _{the altar} , _{make an oath} , _{approach the Kan} , and _{make a pact} " [Jin Shu - Chu Chuan] ② To dig a hole. ※Kuka Nichiyo Kogo Ryakushu - Jiaqing 2nd year (1388): "A disciple followed _his orders _to move _the niche _to the tower, which was _stored in the Kan, _{and covered} _{it with} earth, placing _two stones on _top of it." ③ One of the Eight Trigrams of the I Ching . It is drawn with a counting stick. Also, one of the Sixty-Four Trigrams. . It represents water, rain, and clouds, and in terms of direction, it corresponds to Zi, or due north. ※Kaifengso (751): Preface: "Upon the _Queen 's _{conquest of Kan} , the Emperor's riding on _Qian " [I Ching - Shu Gua]
