Kawachi Prefecture

...National lawsuits were filed 30 times between the Tenmei period and the end of the Edo period, but the one filed in 1823-24 (Bunsei 6-7) was the largest, with 1,307 villages, or 80% of all villages in the three provinces of Setsu, Kawa, and Izumi, uniting to petition against the monopoly of seed cotton by the Sansho cotton wholesaler in Osaka, and for reform of the shogunate's oil policy, which was centered in Osaka.
[Abolition of feudal domains and establishment of prefectures]
Entering the modern era, Kawachi came under the jurisdiction of Osaka Prefecture in May 1868 (Meiji 1), and in January of the following year, 1869, the 16 districts of Kawachi were separated from Osaka Prefecture and placed under the jurisdiction of the newly established Kawachi Prefecture. In August of the same year, Kawachi Prefecture was abolished, and Kawachi came under the jurisdiction of Sakai Prefecture.
