...The hermeneutical and systematic study of the Vedic scriptures is called Mīmānsa (study), and the study of the knowledge section of the Vedic scriptures is called Vedanta-Mīmānsa, and developed into the Vedanta school. Karma-Mīmānsa, the study of the ritual section of the Vedic scriptures, developed into the Mīmānsa school, but the two schools of study are complementary, and together they form the whole of orthodox Brahmin philosophy. Although they came into sharp conflict in later times, it is presumed that at least early scholars studied both disciplines. The common point between the two is their view of scriptures and words, which holds that the Vedic scriptures are the only basis for knowing Brahman.
