Kanda Hakuryu

Japanese: 神田伯竜 - かんだはくりゅう
Kanda Hakuryu

A lecturer. The first is said to be the founder of the Kanda school, and the second was a disciple of the first and lived in Mito, so was called Mito Hakuryu. However, the third Hakuryu sold his name to Kanda Hakusei in Osaka, so the Hakuryu name split into two, one in the east and one in the west, and later Ichiryusai Teizo took on the name of the second Hakuryu in Osaka, but later Hakuryu appeared in both Otsu and Osaka at the same time, making things complicated. The Tokyo generation is described below.

He was succeeded by Hakuri (real name Akimoto Kakunosuke), who became Hakuryu in 1904 (Meiji 37). However, when the world of rakugo split the following year, he rebelled against his master, the first Kanda Shori, and so his stage name was taken away and he became Nishio Rinkei.
