It was disbursed from the 1947 US fiscal year to purchase relief supplies such as food, fertilizer, and medicines to prevent disease and social unrest. The total amount of aid to Japan, including the ELOA fund, was about $1.8 billion until it was terminated in the 1951 US fiscal year.
