The New Yorker - Nyuyokaa (English spelling)

The New Yorker - Nyuyokaa (English spelling)

One of America's leading magazines (weekly), first published in 1925. Originally targeted at readers in the New York area, the success of a small-sized special edition (pony edition) published for soldiers on the front lines during World War II led to the magazine's transformation into a national magazine. The magazine's trademark is the illustration of a gentleman (Eustace Tilley) wearing a top hat and observing a butterfly with a monocle, which was used on the cover of the first issue. It is an intellectual general magazine filled with New York information, including a column called "Buzz of the Town," high-quality one-panel cartoons, short stories, and non-fiction, and its selling point is that it "doesn't change." The magazine, which can be described as a liberal and high-quality literary magazine, has also produced many works, such as Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood" and John Hersey's "Hiroshima." Since its launch, Harold Wallace Ross (1892-1951) served as the first editor-in-chief for 26 years, followed by William Shawn (1907-1992) as the second editor-in-chief for 34 years. With the spread of television from the mid-1950s onwards, advertisers began to allocate their advertising budgets from large circulation magazines to television commercials, and large circulation magazines such as Look , Life and Saturday Evening Post disappeared. Even under these circumstances, The New Yorker, which was targeted at upscale (above average income, education and social status) wealthy readers and had well-defined reader characteristics, remained a magazine of choice. However, in the 1960s and 1970s, rival magazines such as New York (Magazine) (launched in 1968) were launched, and the magazine began to lose advertising from department stores and other sources that were important to the magazine, and it began to struggle. In 1985, the magazine was acquired by Condé Nast, a subsidiary of Advance Publications led by Samuel I. Newhouse, Jr. (1928-2017), a leading American media mogul. Since then, editors-in-chief have been replaced more frequently than before. The magazine, which had previously sold itself as being "unchanging," may have begun to change. Sales volume: approximately 1.04 million copies (according to the Circulation Audit Organization, average for 2009).
