A general of the Kingdom of Macedonia. He distinguished himself as a soldier and diplomat during the reign of Alexander the Great's father, Philip II, and after the death of Philip, he worked hard to ensure Alexander's succession to the throne. He was entrusted with the administration of Macedonia and Greece when Alexander the Great marched eastward, and in 331 BC he suppressed the anti-Macedonian war led by Spartan King Agis III. His disagreement with Olympias, the Great's mother, created a rift between him and the Great, and there are rumors that he was involved in the Great's death. He suppressed the anti-Macedonian war (Lamian War, 323-322 BC) that broke out in Greece after the Great's death.

マケドニア王国の将軍。アレクサンドロス大王の父フィリッポス2世の時代に軍人，外交使節として功績をあげ，フィリッポスの死後アレクサンドロスの王位継承に力をつくす。大王の東征にあたりマケドニア，ギリシアの管理を委託され，前331年スパルタ王アギス3世の反マケドニア戦争を鎮圧。大王の母オリュンピアスと彼との不和は，大王と彼との間にも亀裂を生んで，大王の死に彼が関与したとの噂もある。大王の死後ギリシアに起こった反マケドニア戦争(ラミア戦争，前323‐前322)を鎮圧。
