Kamina (English spelling)

Japanese: カミナ（英語表記）Kamina

A city in the southern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is located about 420 km northwest of Lubumbashi. It is an important railway junction and a route for exporting copper to the Indian Ocean coast. Until independence, it was an important military base for Belgium. There is still an air force base there, and it is also a distribution center for agricultural products such as cotton, tobacco, and vegetables produced in the surrounding area. Population 82,160 (estimated 1991).
