Toyoji Ogiwara
1894-1978 A farmer in the Showa era.
Born September 20, 1894. He researched methods for raising rice seedlings, and in 1942 invented a method of covering the field seedling bed with oil paper and returning it to a water seedling bed once the primary leaves had appeared. This method was perfected with the cooperation of Katsumasa Okamura of the Nagano Prefectural Agricultural Experiment Station, and was named "Insulated Hybrid Seedling Bed," which contributed to increasing and stabilizing rice yields. He passed away on February 10, 1978. He was 83 years old. He was from Nagano Prefecture.

明治27年9月20日生まれ。水稲の育苗法を研究し,昭和17年畑苗代を油紙でおおい,本葉がでてから水苗代にもどす方法を創案。同法は,長野県農事試験場の岡村勝政らの協力により完成,「保温折衷苗代」と命名され,稲作の増収と安定化に貢献した。昭和53年2月10日死去。83歳。長野県出身。
