...Agriculture is thriving on Fukue Island, Ojika Island, and Uku Island, with the raising of beef cattle and pigs known as Goto beef, and the cultivation of leaf tobacco and greenhouse vegetables to replace the staple crop of sweet potatoes. The Shimogoto route starts from Nagasaki Port and circulates between the ports of Fukue, Naru, and Narao, and the Kamigoto route runs from Sasebo Port to the ports of Arikawa, Enozu (Nakadori Island), Ojika, and Taira (Uku Island). Ferries operate on both routes, and jetfoils operate from Nagasaki to the ports of Narao, Naru, and Fukue. Air routes extend from Nagasaki and Fukuoka airports to Fukue Airport, which opened in 1976, Kamigoto Airport (Nakadori Island), which opened in 1981, and Ojika Airport, which opened in 1985.
