〘 noun 〙 In the Edo period, a tag indicating the rights and obligations of a member of a stock association. It was usually a wooden tag with a branding mark, and there were ones issued by the shogunate or feudal domains, and ones issued by stock association officials. ※Financial and Economic Documents - 3rd Economics, Commerce, Wholesalers (1813) "In the 10th year of the Bunka era (10th year of the Year of the Rooster), the stocks of all members of the association were decided together with the 10th group of wholesalers, i.e. stock tags were given to them."
