...Many ascetics entered Yoshino Kinpusan from the end of the Nara period to the middle of the Heian period, and many temples and pagodas were built in Aizen and Iwakura in Yoshino, forming a major powerhouse of Shugendo. It has also been called "Golden Utaki" since ancient times, and there is a belief that it is a mountain that stores gold. It was also likened to the inner sanctum of Tosotsuten in the Maitreya Pure Land, and pilgrimages to the mountain became so popular that it was visited by Emperor Uda and Emperor Shirakawa, as well as Fujiwara Michikane, Michinaga, and Moromichi. Michinaga's pilgrimage to the mountain and offering of sutras in 1007 (Kanko 4) is particularly well known....
