...To reduce irritation to the skin, it is preferable to lower the pH level slightly (pH 5-7), and this is adjusted using synthetic detergents such as higher alcohol sulfates and nonionic surfactants. In addition, synthetic detergents with strong degreasing power can cause rough skin, so Vaseline, lanolin, wax, etc. are added as superfatting agents. Denatured proteins, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), etc. may also be used.
