[Born] 1255. Nicomedia
[died] c.1305 Byzantine philologist. He made a great contribution to transmitting the works of classical antiquity to later generations. He edited and commented on the works of Hesiod, Thucydides, Aristophanes, Theocritus, Nonnus, Ptolemy, Diophantus, and others, covering literature, history, geography, and mathematics. He also translated works by Latin authors such as Cicero, Ovid, and Boethius into Greek, striving to bridge the intellectual gap with the West. He is also known for re-editing the Anthology of Greek Liturgy by Cephalas.

ビザンチンの文献学者。古典古代の作品を後代に伝えるうえで大きな貢献をした。ヘシオドス，ツキジデス，アリストファネス，テオクリトス，ノンノス，プトレマイオス，ディオファントスなど文学，歴史，地理，数学にわたる古典作品の校訂と注解を行なったほか，キケロ，オウィディウス，ボエチウスなどラテン作家の作品をギリシア語に翻訳し，西方との知的断絶を埋めるために努力した。また，ケファラスの編んだ『ギリシア詞華集』を再編集したことでも知られる。
