Depending on the method, welding can be broadly divided into fusion welding, in which the materials to be joined (called base materials) are locally melted and bonded and solidified, pressure welding, in which the base materials are heated to a nearly molten state and mechanically joined by applying force, diffusion bonding, in which the base materials are heated and held and joined by atomic interdiffusion, and brazing, in which a metal with a lower melting point than the base materials is melted and poured between the base materials and joined using the adhesive force with the base material surface. Compared to mechanical joining such as riveting, welding has a higher strength at the joint (called a welded joint), and can produce light and strong structures and parts in a short period of time and at low cost. …
