Year of death: Kan'ei 18 (1641) Year of birth: Tensho 14 (1586) A hatamoto (shogunate vassal) of the early Edo period. Commonly known as Jinjuro, his official title was Tamibu Shoyu (minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs), and his father Masanori. He served Tokugawa Ieyasu closely, and served as an emissary during the Siege of Osaka, entering the castle when Hideyori and his mother pleaded for their lives to be spared. In 1619 (Genna 5), he became an inspector, and in 1631 (Kan'ei 8), he became the town magistrate of Edo. In 1631, he received an increase in his stipend of 9,500 koku. In 1638, he was made inspector of the stone walls and moats of Edo Castle, and in 1639, he handed Himeji Castle over to Matsudaira Tadaaki as an envoy. In 1640, he became an ometsuke (metropolitan inspector), and in the same year, he traveled to Nagasaki, where he burned and sank a Portuguese ship that had arrived in ignorance of the isolationist order, executing 61 of the crew, including Luis Pacheco. The following year, in 1641, he was burned to death while on duty to put out the great fire in Edo. He was a capable official, having held important positions such as town magistrate and ometsuke.
