Otari [village] - Otari

Japanese: 小谷[村] - おたり

A village in Kitaazumi District, located in the northwestern corner of Nagano Prefecture. The northern half of the village borders Niigata Prefecture, and more than 90% of the area is covered by forests. The Hime River, famous for its rapids, flows north through the center of the village, and the JR Oito Line and National Route 148 run along the river. The village is in a landslide zone along the Fossa Magna, and receives a lot of snow in winter. Large ski resorts are located at Tsugaike Highland in the south and at the foot of Mt. Hieda. Tsugaike Nature Park, known as a high-altitude marsh, is the trailhead for Mt. Hakuba, and there is a trail to the summit via Hakuba Oike Pond. Otari Onsen in the north is the base for climbing Mt. Amakasaka. 267.91 ^km2 . 3,221 people (2010).

長野県北西端に位置する，北安曇郡の村。北半分は新潟県に接し，９割以上を山林が占める。村のほぼ中央を急流で有名な姫川が北流し，川に沿ってJR大糸線と国道148号が通じる。フォッサマグナ沿いの地すべり地帯に相当し，冬季の積雪も非常に多く，南部の栂池(つがいけ)高原や稗田山山麓には大規模なスキー場が立地する。高層湿原として知られる栂池自然園は白馬岳の登山口で，白馬大池を経て山頂への登山路があるほか，北部の小谷温泉は雨飾山の登山基地となっている。267.91km²。3221人（2010）。
