Kaifuchu

Japanese: 甲斐府中 - かいふちゅう
Kaifuchu

… [Tadao Yokota]
[Kofu Castle Town]
A castle town in Kai Province. Kofu is an abbreviation of Kai-Fuchu, and its origins date back to 1519, when Takeda Shintora moved his castle from Isawa to Tsutsujigasaki, on the northern edge of present-day Kofu City. It became the base of operations for three generations of Takeda Shingen and Katsuyori. Unlike Isawa, which is flat, this town is the opening of the Aikawa alluvial fan, surrounded by mountains on three sides (north, east, and west), and the Kofu Basin stretches out to the south, making it a strategic location.
