Hoeryong Basin

...A county in the northern part of North Hamgyong Province, Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Most of the county is a gently sloping forest area stretching from the 1,000m ridge of the Hamgyong Mountains, which cut off the southern part of the country, to the Tumen River, but along the Tumen River is the relatively wide Hoeryong Basin. The area around this basin was inhabited by the Jurchen people until the early Joseon period, and the Joseon Dynasty, which conquered the area, established Hoeryong Town as one of the Six Northern Towns.
