...This technique is known as high-speed or ultra-high-speed photography, but in the scrape-off method, in which the film is moved intermittently like in a normal cine camera, the maximum shooting speed is 1000 frames per second (1000 f/s). To achieve speeds faster than this, special cameras and equipment such as the following are used.

The film is wound continuously and the image is moved along with the film by a rotating prism, allowing a winding speed of nearly 100 m/s, and a speed of 10 4 f/s can be obtained with a 16 mm long film. If this is projected at 16 f/s, the time is stretched by 10 4 /16 = 625 times.
