...At the age of 20, she married the Kurachi family and disappeared, and her aged father went into the entertainment business, leading to the catchphrase, "What a tea kettle that turned into a medicine kettle." During the Bunsei period, the human interest story "Shochikubai Sankumi Sakazuki - Kasamori Osen Monogatari" (written by Somanjin II) was published, and in kabuki, "Tsuki no Kasamori" (Ghost Story of Moonlit Kasamori) (written by Kawatake Mokuami) was dramatized based on the story "The Tale of Three Sisters' Causes and Effects," which premiered at the Edo Morita Theater in August 1865 (Keio 1). In this play, Osen avenges the death of her sister, and Sawamura Tanosuke III played the role of Osen, which was well received and a big hit.

...This is a series of works that vividly portray the lower class society of the Edo city, in line with Kodanji's style of performance, which has both realism and a sense of musicality that comes with the shamisen. Other works include "Aotozoshi Hana no Ni Shokie" (1862) by Ichimura Uzaemon 13 (later Onoe Kikugoro 5), and "Musume Gonomi Ukina Yokogushi" (1864) and "Kaidan Tsukigasamori" (1865) by Sawamura Tanosuke 3. The third period was about 15 years from Kodanji's death in 1866 to his retirement in 1881 at the age of 66, and was a time when, in addition to the traditional domestic dramas, he opened up new horizons in lively dramas (katsurekimono), dance dramas (sankirimono), and matsubamemono, in order to adapt to the new era. ...
