Resolution - Kaizouudo (English) resolution

Resolution - Kaizouudo (English) resolution

A measure of the image resolution of televisions, digital cameras, etc. In television, the number of distinguishable horizontal lines is called vertical resolution, and the number of distinguishable vertical lines is called horizontal resolution. Vertical resolution is determined by the number of scan lines; in the case of traditional Japanese analog television with an aspect ratio of 4x3 and 525 scan lines, the vertical and horizontal resolutions are approximately 340 and 330 lines, respectively. On the other hand, high definition television (HDTV, called Hi-Vision in Japan) with an aspect ratio of 16:9 has a higher resolution, and the number of effective vertical x horizontal pixels (pixels, a portmanteau of pix , short for pictures, and el , short for element) equivalent to the vertical x horizontal resolution of BS (broadcasting satellite) digital Hi-Vision with 1125 scan lines is approximately 1100 x 1900.

In digital cameras, performance is measured by the total number of CCD (charge coupled device) elements used, for example 1 to 5 million pixels.

The resolution of an output image is the number of dots that a printer can resolve per inch (dpi = dots per inch), and is displayed as horizontal resolution x vertical resolution, for example, 1440 x 720 dpi. On a computer or other display, it is expressed as the number of light points that can be displayed horizontally and vertically across the entire image.

In conventional camera lenses and photosensitive materials for silver halide photography, the term "resolution" is used.
