Seaweed wine - Kaisoushu

...Therefore, the technique of steeping medicinal herbs in alcohol to make medicinal liquor has been developed since ancient times. Examples found in Dioscorides's "De Materia Medica" include seaweed wine made by putting white seaweed in wine and leaving it for three months (medicinal for dropsy, jaundice, and spleen diseases), pear wine made by putting unripe pears in wine with rowan fruits (medicinal for stomach diseases), rose wine made by drying and crushing rose flowers and adding them to wine (antidiarrheal), rosin wine made by finely chopping pine resin together with bark (cough suppressant, enema agent), and absinthe made by putting wormwood in wine (effective for liver disease, jaundice, and hypochondria), which number about 50 types. There is also an abortion liquor made by mixing wild cucumbers and other ingredients.
