Resolution limit

...It is expressed as n ･sinα, where n is the refractive index of the medium and α is the angle that the light ray from an object point on the optical axis makes with the radius of the entrance pupil (effective aperture of the optical system). For example, in a microscope, the minimum distance between two points on an object that can be distinguished is called the resolution limit, which is given by 0.61λ/NA in the case of aberration-free imaging (λ is the wavelength used). In other words, the resolution limit is determined inversely proportional to the numerical aperture, and is not dependent on the magnification.
